Mesmerizing Moves Open Dance Festival

Dance devotees and art patrons received a double treat last Thursday during April’s Art Walk, where four different galleries typically displaying two-dimensional art works of permanence were filled with the volume of ephemeral three-dimensional contemporary choreography.
The UC Irvine students transfixed their audience, demonstrating the artistic-athletic feats expected during this weekend’s Laguna Dance Festival showcasing Desmond Richardson, co-founder of New York’s Complexions Contemporary Ballet and star of television’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” in performances April 15-17 at Laguna Playhouse.
Performances are Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. An artist talk precedes Sunday’s performance at 1 p.m.
Complexions dancers will also teach ballet master classes at the LBHS Dance Studio on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. for $15 per person.
