I grew up in Laguna and I am an alumni of LBHS. After reading this article about the school year beginning a bit earlier I became very confused at the uproar this calendar change has caused. First, it seems as though the school district has thought about the students and their families. If there are so many absences the week of Thanksgiving then why hold school? Teachers need students to teach. Also, so many other schools start before Labor Day that perhaps it is a good idea for LBHS schools to adopt a more main stream type calendar. I truly think the residents of Laguna need to see this as a good thing, and not complain and blame the teachers. Instead of complaining, enjoy the extra days off during Thanksgiving.

Before we took our children out of the LB School District we tried to talk with the Board to no avail. Bill Landsiedel said he wanted parents to come to the Board meetings to voice their opinions. Now a large turnout and the Board does not listen. The students/parents do not count. The School Board, Teachers and Union are what controls. "Suck it up" what a horrible comment from Ketta Brown. Unfortunately citizens of LB you voted for these wingnuts!
