Kindergartens Learn New Math: a Dozen Chairs Change 12 Lives
When the Top of the World kindergarten set out to raise funds for Irvine-based Free Wheelchair Mission, their success not only surprised the students but their teachers, too. Under an initiative suggested by kindergarten teacher Megan Bartlett, each child was asked to raise $2 to help towards the purchase of four low-cost wheelchairs. Full Story
Coaches Hold Football Camp
3rd - 8th Graders
The Laguna Beach High School football staff will conduct a non-contact football skills camp on Guyer Field from 9 a.m. to noon, April 7 to 9. Participants will learn blocking and tackling forms, as well as defensive and special teams position skills. Fundaments will be taught and executed during flagscrimmages. Full Story

Cox Offers Awards to Youth Film Makers
Cox Communications is seeking submissions in its 2008 video contest, which invites Orange County high school seniors to submit video essays about friends or mentors who have inspired them, or to show what friendship means to them. The deadline to submit videos is Apr. 11. Full Story

Parents, educators and community members are invited to the Artists' Theatre on April 16 to hear Michael Josephson speak about developing strong character in our kids. 2007-08 Boys Basketball Awards
The 74th season's Boys Basketball Team banquet was held on Tuesday night at the historic North Gym, the home court for Laguna hoops from 1937 through 1963. Head coach Bret Fleming concluded his 13th season celebrating conference championships at all three levels in 2007-08 honoring the players and parents who helped make this past season successful. Girls Softball Teams Compete Among Friends
Two Laguna Beach 10 and under girls softball teams -- the Sportsworld Slammers and the Lumberyard Restaurant Crackerjacks -- competed for the second time this year in a hotly contested game, which the Crackerjacks won 11-10. Both Laguna teams came into last Saturday's game at El Morro having mostly played Newport Beach teams. Full Story
Russian Sisters Win TOW Essay Contest
Class Notes
Katya and Julia Cox-Kruger arrived at Top of the World elementary two years ago from Russia, not speaking a word of English. Tuesday each read award-winning essays titled "If I Were President, I Would…", to the school board and were applauded by teachers, administrators and elected officials for their extraordinary progress. Teen Garage Bands Rock for Research
The Help for Hope Club at Laguna Beach High School is holding their fourth annual musical concert Saturday, March 29, at 4:30 p.m. at the Festival of Art's Forum Theatre on Laguna Canyon Road. Previously, the teens' annual events have cumulatively raised $13,000 for cancer research at the City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte. Full Story
Wednesday's Volleyball Results
Newport Harbor (12-3) rallied to edge Laguna 22-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-11 in a thrilling match Wednesday night at the Sailor's gym. In the lower levels, Laguna JV went to 11-0 securing their reputation as the top team in Orange County. The Frosh (16-1) lost to Newport in a battle of unbeaten teams. Full Story
