More than 20 cents
Editor: Thumbs up for last week's letter "The sum of a writer's 20 cents worth." [Kurt Mahoney]. It was right on with all issues that also resonate with me: residential parking, having fiveStarbucks (two within a block of each other downtown), greed, vacant storefronts, lack of resident serving businesses, corruption/ineptness, MTV and upscaling Laguna Beach. Nice job on the Nyes Place sewer project
Editor: The North Coast Interceptor Project at Nyes Place is complete. For residents like me who live above it, watching Coast Highway get back to normal is a great sight. Who'd have thought that one could become that attached to a left turn pocket? Full Story
Let's be honest about our small town hypocrisies
Editor: I cringed when I read the hollow sounding protests in the Indy [3/28] by the motorist who was stopped by the cops for honking in support of the peace vigil at Main Beach. He claimed the police were politically motivated and persecuted him for tooting his horn for peace. Full Story
Is the fire dept. responding to resident concerns?
Editor: I found the recent March 21 article by William Hagel regarding the minimal response to the city's outreach program to educate the community of fire threats interesting. Full Story
Change is not a four-letter word
Editor: In ìEmpty Stores Renew Debate on Downtownî (March 21), William Hagle cites many who believe that the Downtown Specific Plan bears much of the blame for our downtown problems. I heartily concur. Full Story
Downtown dilemma
Editor: I read with much interest your finearticle about the debate on our downtown businesses [3/21]. As a businessman myself, I feel much sympathy for the owners of downtown buildings who cannot get market rates for their rental properties as well as for the local store owners who are no longer able to afford to stay in town due to ever increasing rents. Papered storefronts and the homeless - what a visitor views of our downtown
Editor: I was relieved to hear that Tommy Bahama had finally been given the approval to open a store downtown. Not especially because I'm a big fan, but more because they will certainly beautify that decrepit corner that's been an eyesore for way too long. Their Polynesian and island look is perfect for our downtown image; I'm just not sure what took so long. Full Story
Paying the price for being quaint, charming & beautiful
Editor: According to an article in the March 21 edition of the Indy, increasing numbers of empty storefronts in the Laguna Beach downtown are looming as a major cause of concern among developers and business owners calling for a major review of the Downtown Specific Plan, which was originated in 1989. Take responsibility for preservation of public open space
Editor: I want to thank Gene Felder from bringing the issue of the misuse of public open space for staging construction and additional access at 3325 Alta Laguna Blvd to the public's attention. What I want to know first is what on earth is Design Review doing making decisions about the use of public open space? Full Story
Extorting, raping, evil people must stop
Editor: Bureaucrats and politicians are going wild. The so called "non-profit"Fair Housing Council, backed up by tax-payer supported state bureaucrats, is trying to extort a huge finefrom [a] guy who wanted to rent out a little house behind his home and advertised it as, "well suited for professional adults". They claim it was discriminatory against families. Full Story
Woman's work
Editor: Some Democrats think Hillary should quit the race for the good of the party. They don't understand. Evolution bred men for hunting and fishing, women for gathering and foraging. When Hillary forages for votes she is doing woman's work and woman's work is never done. Full Story
