Volunteer gardeners pitched in on Saturday to refurbish the Mountain Avenue beach access greenery, maintained for years by a volunteer caretaker. Its location, midway between what had been a triangle of gay-friendly businesses, made the garden an informal memorial for AIDS victims. City maintenance workers provided water,trash bags and hauled away debris. Full Story

The Outdoor Fitness Adventure Club of Laguna Niguel is organizing a fundraiser Sept. 7 to help pay for high school athlete Cameron Piorek's physical therapy. The fundraising event, whose goal is to raise $150,000 will include a 5K, live music, a pancake breakfast sponsored by Ruby's San Juan Capistrano, a silent auction, and a carnival atmosphere.
