Compassion for Clients Unites Women Lawyers
Laguna Beach resident Kim Leone Olenicoff has opened a women-owned law firm that promises its specialty is a kinder, gentler legal practice.
Olenicoff & Zinser, which opened its doors Aug. 1 in Irvine, is comprised solely of women lawyers who specialize in bankruptcy. Their practice focuses on explaining the process and the options available to their clients in "non-legalese." The partners offer a non-judgmental atmosphere where women and families can feel welcome, get their questions answered, and receive a fresh start.
The women lawyers, who worked together a decade ago at a Los Angeles law firm, say they understand that most bankruptcies are not simply a result of consumer irresponsibility. Often, unanticipated medical bills, downturns in the housing market, or loss of a job or spouse can wreak financial havoc on a family, according to the practitioners.
Olenicoff, a practicing lawyer for nine years, understands this personally as she suddenly lost her husband a few years ago and, like many of her clients, had to deal with an unexpected financial change.
Zinser, who has been practicing law for 14 years, is also a real estate broker and a mother of two. She understands how people are struggling with mortgages, short sales, and foreclosures in the current real estate market. "We want people to know that if they are having trouble making mortgage payments and they speak with us soon enough, they will have more options. In some cases, we may be able to stop foreclosure through filing for bankruptcy," Zinser said.
