DUI Checkpoint Saturday Night In a press release from LBPD traffic sergeant Bob Rahaeuser, a DUI checkpoint was set up for southbound traffic in the 30000 block of Coast Hwy from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. 401 of 2,091 passing vehicles were stopped and handed educational flyers about the problems associated with drunk driving. Field sobriety tests were given to 11 driver and five DUI arrests were made:

Michael Haley, 44, Newport Beach Sgt. Rahaeuser concluded the release with a comment: "All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. The [LBPD] will continue to work at keeping city roadways safer for all drivers."

Monday - August 25
Ocean Way - 1900 Block Vandalism 9:33 a.m. Stairs down to the beach were tagged with graffiti.
Ramona Avenue - 600 Block Warrant Arrest 10:32 a.m. A man came to the police station with paperwork seeking the removal of a "boot" from his car. When the DMV check of the registration revealed that the registered owner had an outstanding traffic warrant, Harlow P. Boyle, 39, Laguna Beach, was taken into custody. Tuesday - August 26
Glenneyre - 900 Block Vandalism 9:16 a.m. Patio furniture was damaged overnight.
Glenneyre - 300 Block Forgery; Grand Theft 12:20 p.m. A $154 check written to a former employee of Five Feet was altered and cashed for $954.
Mystic Way - 600 Block Petty Theft 12:35 p.m. A purse was taken from an unlocked car.
Main Beach Battery 3:33 p.m. Matthew Mark Lang, 44, no fixed address, was arrested for battery after an altercation with another man.
Monument Park Public Intoxication 5:21 p.m. Colleen Lamp, 33, no fixed address, was arrested for public intoxication.
N. Coast Hwy - 100 Block Vandalism 7:05 p.m. A gas pump at the Mobil station was damaged. An employee told police that the driver of a red Mazda convertible placed the nozzle into the gas tank and immediately drove off without pumping any gasoline damaging the pump itself.
Wednesday - August 27
Forest Lane - 200 Block Marijuana; Foot Pursuit 1:10 a.m. An officer saw a man with marijuana in the alleyway and managed to make contact. The suspect handed over the marijuana then suddenly took off on foot. Officers managed to take Jason Boyd, 24, into custody in the 300 block of Glenneyre. He was taken into custody and charged with resisting/obstructing/delaying an officer and possession of under an ounce of marijuana.
Wesley Drive - 21500 Block Warrant Arrest 10:59 a.m. Deborah Lannan, 59, no fixed address, was arrested on a Harbor Court warrant for trespassing with bail of $5000.
Sleepy Hollow Lane - 600 Block Grand Theft 3:18 p.m. After an outdoor wedding party, the groom noticed that gift envelopes appeared to have been opened. He contacted the guests involved and determined that $600 in cash had been stolen.
Forest Avenue - 300 Block Felony Vandalism, vehicle 7:18 p.m. An extremely abrasive gel substance was thrown onto a Lexus SUV at some point overnight. The unknown substance did extensive damage to the vehicle's paint. A small amount of the gel landed on the white parking line removing the paint there as well.
Thursday - August 28
Laguna Canyon Road & Canyon Acres Drive Warrant Arrest 5:52 a.m. During a traffic stop, wants and warrants were checked on Santa Ana resident Ramiro Alarcon Oropeza, 38. A Central Court warrant with charges of driving on a suspended or revoked license and expired vehicle registration with bail of $20,000. He was also charged with the same driver's license violation.
Mountain View Drive - 3000 Block Annoying Calls 7:40 a.m. The RP has been receiving obscene calls for two weeks.
Tablerock Beach Drug Arrest 5:22 p.m. When beach patrol officers made contact with Patrick Lyon, 19, Orange, he had a container with marijuana and hashish in plain view. Officers responded and arrested Lyon on a felony charge of possession of concentrated cannabis.
S. Coast Hwy & Cleo Street Parole Violation 7:12 p.m. A routine traffic stop for expired registration led to the arrest of David Mario Martinez, 40, of Riverside for no bail parole violation. When the officer making the traffic stop requested a records check, it was learned that he had a suspended driver's license and was on parole for possession of a deadly weapon. A search of his vehicle turned up a large knife - a deadly weapon. When parole authorities were contacted, Martinez was ordered to be held without bail and taken to Santa Ana jail. St. Ann's Beach Vandalism 7:25 p.m. Police were provided with the name of a possible suspect after the beach stairs were tagged with graffiti.
Coast Hwy - 30800 Block Grand Theft 7:30 p.m. China Bistro reported the loss of $942 in cash and gave police the name of a probable suspect.
Friday - August 29
Cliff Drive - 200 Block Public Intoxication 1:10 p.m. Police arrested Charles "Cowboy" Conwell, 57, no fixed address, after he was found sleeping on the sidewalk.
N. Coast Hwy - 1200 Block Vandalism; Assault 5:28 p.m. Police were called about a dispute between neighbors. The RP said his neighbor had taken down a fence that had just been erected on the RP's property. When the RP approached the neighbor, the neighbor allegedly threw part of the fence at him.
Saturday - August 30
S. Coast Hwy - 600 Block Assault with a Deadly Weapon 1:15 a.m. Police received a report of a large fight in the street at Club M. The first arriving units called for more units for backup because of the number of people outside. Teresita Ruiz, 29, Los Angeles and Maritza Sandoval, 25, Alhambra, were detained and later charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. Police said a large group of people (so large that many didn't know each other) from the L.A. area had come to Laguna to celebrate the birthday of another girl. The birthday girl had to be taken outside to a limo to take her home. Sandoval and Ruiz became incensed when a 35-year-old Pasadena man wanted to care for the woman in the limo - so incensed that they allegedly started a fight with the man, In the course of the altercation, Sandoval and Ruiz began kicking the man with their spiked heels. One kick punctured his jeans and his inner thigh requiring paramedic and ER treatment.
Cedar Way - 200 Block Stolen Vehicle; Drugs 5:05 p.m. A patrol unit became suspicious of a woman sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car in the alley and ran the plate. The computer in the patrol unit immediately sounded an alert that the plate was from a stolen vehicle. Simultaneously, the same alert sounded in all other LBPD units leading to a convergence in the alley. On her 50th birthday, Penelope Kittredge Sanborn, Van Nuys, was arrested for vehicle theft. A search added the charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession for sales. Police said the drug was found in several different locations in the car along with packaging materials used for individual sales.
S. Coast Hwy - 2700 Block DUI; Child Endangerment 8:16 a.m. Police received "numerous" 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic crash involving three vehicles. Some callers said they were certain one driver was inebriated. Amy Lynne Betonte, 46 of Laguna Niguel, was arrested for DUI. She had her 8-year-old son in the car leading to a charge of child endangerment.
Main Beach Public Intoxication 10:27 p.m. Mark John Lane, 51, no fixed address, was arrested for public intoxication.
Sunday - August 31
Temple Hills Drive & Thalia Street Public Intoxication 4:33 a.m. Ladera Ranch resident Charlie Wolf, 28, was arrested for public intoxication.
Santa Ana Street - 1000 Block Vandalism 3:30 p.m. Trees were clipped in an ongoing neighbors' dispute.
Legion & Catalina Streets Warrant Arrest 6:33 p.m. Stephanie Marie Lowe, 24, Rancho Cucamonga, was arrested during a traffic stop on a North Court warrant with a charge of DUI. Bail was set at $10,000.
