LBHS Student Named a National Merit Semifinalist
Laguna Beach High School senior Blake Henderson has big plans for his future. That plan got a kick-start this week with the announcement of the National Merit Semifinalists for 8,200 scholarships. Henderson qualified amongst approximately 16,000 potential finalists by his PSAT score. In typical humble fashion, he declined to state his qualifying score. Full Story

Boys & Girls Club Assists Kids Net Dreams
Basketball, played at the original Boys Club of Laguna Beach when it opened on Main Beach in 1952, still plays a role in providing local youth a reason to get together under the guidance and supervision of recreation professionals. Full Story
Girls Volleyball Underway
37th Season Laguna Beach High School's Girls Volleyball team opened its season yesterday as the Breakers hosted J Serra for the first meeting between the schools. Coach Lance Stewart (8th year, 138-55) returns two key All-CIF players in Alexandra Palmer and Piper Obradovich. Botht were a big part of the past two CIF titles. Full Story

Fall Tennis Programs
Registration is currently open for All Court Tennis's fall programs for pee wee, junior, teen, competitor and Cardio Tennis. Morning and evening classes available. Pee wee, junior and teen classes are for beginners and intermediates. Advanced juniors can attend competitor or tournament training classes to work on building a mature, allcourt competitive game. Laguna's 75th football season, a season of high hopes and aspirations, took a quick turn last Friday night at Coronado where the Islanders scored quickly and without much resistance to easily defeat the visitors from Laguna in the 18th meeting of the series. Full Story

Surf Update
When Jack Denny died 10 years ago on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1998, I was 10 years old. I never had a chance to meet Jack. If I was surfing Thalia everyday then, I would have. From what I have heard over the years about Jack is that he was one of the best local Laguna surfers, and that he loved the waves and town just as passionately as he loved to surf. Full Story
