Breakers Romp 37-7 in Season's First Win
After two lopsided losses and coming oh-so-close last week, the Breakers broke into the win column with a resounding 37-7 win over hapless St. Monica before a happy crowd at Guyer Field last Friday night. Breakers Trounce Santa Monica
Last Friday, the Laguna Beach High School's freshman sophomore football team turned in their best performance to date, thumping Santa Monica 51-20. At halftime, the score stood at 44-0. Full Story

Breakers Roll Past Edison, Godinez
Laguna cruised with two blowout home wins this past week rolling past Edison 16-2 last Thursday and blanking new Orange Coast League member Godinez, 18-0 this Tuesday. The top two singles players for the Breakers are still undefeated with #1 Alex Tachovsky at 18-0 and #2 Maddie Jaeger, 21-0. Full Story

Breakers Take 14th at Tournament
Laguna overcame injury to finish 14th in the 32-team South Coast Water Polo Tournament played in various South Orange County pools last weekend. Nolan McConnell, a key part of the Breaker attack, suffered a nose injury early in the tournament and his offensive loss was felt down the stretch. Full Story
Top Art Students Receive Honors
Laguna College of Art & Design acknowledged 62 students who made the president's honor roll and presented 21 scholarships totaling over $35,000, that were provided by individuals and community organizations, at a reception Sept. 18. Full Story

Laguna Surprises Torrey, but Loses to Newport
Laguna hosted a pair of highly ranked volleyball powerhouses in five days at Dugger Gym. Last Thursday, the Breakers overcame an opening game loss and came back to beat Torrey Pines, the No. 2 ranked team from San Diego, 3-1. This Tuesday, Division 1-AA power Newport Harbor and Laguna were tied 2-2 only to see Newport steamroll to a onesided win in the fifth game. Full Story
Water-Saving Inspires Student Contest
A challenge was issued to grade school students K-12 last week to create media projects that demonstrate innovative solutions to the global water crisis. Entries are due on Oct. 31. The contest is a partnership between OC's Education Department, UC Irvine and UNESCO. Full Story
Common Sense Rocks Palooza
Local band Common Sense rocked the SchoolPowersponsored barbeque party at El Morro Elementary last Saturday with their reggae-infused musical style. Parents, grandparents, and kids were all on their feet dancing to music of Jason Freddy, Party Foul and Common Sense. Full Story

Varsity Girls Take Fifth at Stanford
With the rest of the Breaker's contingent of runners taking the week off, girls' Coach Steve Lalim took his varsity squad to Palo Alto last Saturday for the Stanford Invitational. Competing against a field of 24 schools that featured four of the top six Southern Section teams, Laguna turned in a solid performance, taking home fifth place. Full Story
