"…a place where people take care of each other."
Editor's Note: The following is an open letter… Dear SchoolPower Organizers,
I wanted to offer my sincere gratitude for the SchoolPower Palooza event on Saturday. It made me happy to have an event that reflects the smalltown feel that I have grown to love in Laguna Beach. I was able to take my entire family to the event without having to worry about a rowdy crowd, alcohol, inappropriate entertainment, or unruly participants. Instead, we found a well-organized event with great entertainment, a beautiful venue, a respectful crowd, great food, friends, and a shared purpose.
I strongly believe the MTV era is behind us. SchoolPower took a huge step towards broadening the base by hosting an event that attracted people from across the board. My neighbors attended the event with their two daughters. They recently moved to Laguna Beach, and this was their first SchoolPower function.
It was easy to talk about SchoolPower and our district in such a great atmosphere. I was able to convey my belief that this is a place where people take care of each other. The message was made even easier as we watched our kids dance together in front of a stage with other kids and parents. This concert took everything I loved about my time in Kansas, and combined it with everything great about Laguna Beach.
I hope that this event paves the way for similar activities in the future. It was truly a spectacular night for SchoolPower, our school district, and my family!
Sincerely, Don Austin, Principal, Laguna Beach High School
