Fired Up Over New Recruits
The Laguna Beach Fire Department is seeing some new action, luckily not on the fire line but in the hiring hall. Three new recruits began their two-week orientation on Monday. But for Jarett Jensen, 27, Bryan Sarjeant, 24, and Tyler Swets, 27, Laguna Beach isn't altogether new turf. All three were reserve firefighters, said Department Chief Mike Macey. Full Story

LBHS Alumni Add Spirit to 75th Year
To celebrate Laguna Beach High School's 75th year, school officials and alumni organizers plan a proper homecoming for all LBHS students, past and present. The celebration begins with a homecoming tailgate party featuring a live DJ, barbeque, and the LBHS band. The party starts in the district parking lot at 5 p.m. The public is welcome. Full Story

City did a beautiful job with Heisler Park renovation
Editor: I am a long time resident of North Laguna and have been taking almost daily walks in Heisler Park for years. Being a creature of habit it was very difficult for me to have to walk around the fencing that surrounded most of the Park for so many months while the City and its contractors worked feverishly to complete the rebuilding and upgrading of the facility. Shaun Tomson will read from and sign copies of his new book, "Bustin' Down the Door: The Surf Revolution of '75" on Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. at Laguna Beach Books. Neev Takes First in Varsity Race
Coming off a bye week, the boys' cross-country team from Laguna Beach High blew away the competition at the Pepperdine Invitational last Saturday in Malibu. The JV squad, led by senior Rand Hardy's second place finish overall, scored a resounding victory over Orange Lutheran by a count of 23 to 44. Full Story
She's Pirouetting Around Dance's Setbacks
Laguna Beach High School's new dance director, Lisa Jay, aims for a single goal this year: get the dance program back on track, and she's doing everything she can to achieve it. Garden Grove hammered the Breakers, 42-24, to remain unbeaten as their talented running back Sean Young logged over 250 yards rushing and four touchdowns in a non-league contest played at Guyer Field last Friday night. Fast-footed Hayden Runs in 4 TDs
LBHS's freshman-sophomore football team had another win last week and has improved its' record to 4-1. The Breakers played at home and whipped the Garden Grove Argonauts with a final score of 47-6. The larger school had been undefeated until meeting the Breakers. Full Story
