Guards Pull Swimmers From Rip Tide
Laguna Beach lifeguards pulled six swimmers to safety without injury on Saturday after wind-driven rip tides swept them 200 yards offshore near Sleepy Hollow beach. Drawn by the emergency vehicles, scores of people watched the 15-minute operation about 3:45 p.m. on the sand and from nearby Cliff Restaurant and Vacation Village. Full Story
Deadline Nears to Vote in Election
The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 presidential election is Monday, Oct. 20. Laguna Beach's City Clerk has voter registration forms that can be filed up until 5 p.m. Oct. 20. "We will see that it is date stamped and delivered to the Registrar the next day," said City Clerk Martha Anderson. Full Story

Protesting an increase to water service charge
Ed. Note: This was sent to the Laguna Beach County Water District I would like to submit a written protest against the amount of the proposed service charge increase. Here is my perspective: I obtained a 2" meter for my new home in 2003. The service charge was approximately $60. Then, in 2005, the service charge was increased by $40 to $100, a 67 percent increase. Editor: Like many in Laguna Beach, my dream was to own an ocean view home. I achieved this dream about eight years ago. Now, my dream is being taken away because of commercialization. Opening the Big Top for 'Ringmaster' Exhibit
Rohrer Fine Art opens the exhibition "Ringmaster," featuring the artwork of Lawrence Lee, with an artist's reception on Oct. 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. The show runs through Jan. 10. Using mediums such as India ink and tea alongside traditional pencil and watercolor, Lee presents his work in a carnivallike swirl of vivid visual imagery. Full Story

Spirited Frosh-Soph Team Loses in San Diego
The Laguna Beach High School frosh-soph football squad has a record of 4-2 after a tough loss to St. Francis of San Diego last Friday. Penalties against the Breakers coupled with a tough defense by St. Francis held the Laguna team to 13 points. In the previous two games, the Breakersí offense scored a total of 98 points. Full Story
