LBHS Athletes Commit to Premiere Sports Colleges
Seven Laguna Beach High School seniors will be making commitments to continue in their sport at the NCAA Division I level next fall. All have earned All-CIF honors - some multiple times. The D-I signors are water polo players Taylor Dodson, who will play for UC Berkeley; Annika Dries, headed for Stanford; Natasha Schulman, at UCLA; and Sarah Zuziak, for UC Santa Barbara. Full Story

News Girls Capture Tennis League Title
News LBHS (14-2, 7-0) left no doubt about who rules the Orange Coast League as Laguna played tough at Estancia for the win and 2008 league title. In an earlier meeting here, the teams tied with Laguna earning the technical win based on individual games won. Full Story

Laguna Pulls Away from Calvary
Andrew Paddon's 43-yard punt return in the fourth quarter helped Laguna break open a tight contest as the Breakers spoiled the Calvary Chapel homecoming game last Thursday night at Orange Coast College with a 34- 12 victory. Full Story
Girls Golf: Komoroczy Captures Individual League Championship
Laguna's top golfer, Grace Komoroczy, won the Golden West League Individual Championship this week shooting a 75 and 77 in the twoday 36 hole tournament played at the Mesa Linda Golf Course in Costa Mesa on Monday and El Prado on Tuesday. The junior becomes the second Laguna player to win the title with Sasha Speare earning the top honor in 2006. Full Story
Locals Sweep Two Tennis Matches
On Oct. 18 the Laguna Beach Breakers Junior team played the Racquet Club of Irvine, 12 &U. Laguna Beach won 52-33. No. 1 player Katelyn Carballo posted a 6-3 win as did Dominic Droulez. Makena Collins won 6-5 in a tie-breaker, Charles Keller lost a closely fought match 5-6 (tie-breaker), Joie Selin won 6-4 and Kelly Keller won 6-4. Full Story
Thurston's Recognizes a Student Leader
Laguna Beach Unified School District selected Thurston Middle School eighth grader Karina Parker to participate in the National Young Leaders State Conference, based on her leadership potential. The conference offers students an opportunity to develop leadership skills, which dovetails with the school district's goal to prepare students for leadership. Full Story
Girls Dive in to Competition
Mackenzie Peasley and Liv Mitchell, from Crown Valley Divers, traveled to Arizona for the Cactus Invitational Oct. 18 - 19 and came away with medals. Full Story
St. Catherine Students Visited by Political Leaders
St. Catherine of Siena Parish School in Laguna Beach played host to Republican Assemblywoman Mimi Walters and Democratic Party Representative Melahat Rafiei recently. Walters, an assemblywoman, who is running for state Senate in next week's election, spoke to the students about the Republican platform. Full Story
