Unusual Beaching

Catalina Freight Lines took advantage of calm seas to haul away sacks of construction debris from South Laguna's Tutuava Bay last week. The city of Laguna Beach and Caltrans are building a new $1.2 million storm drain into the bluff top below the home of Sam Zimmerman, as part of a settlement over a 2001 lawsuit. The project to redirect Coast Highway runoff onto the sand is hampered by high tides and constrained space, the city manager reported.
