Laguna Man Gets Prison in Counterfeit Scheme
Three Arch Bay resident John Joseph Gavin was sentenced to six months in federal prison and fined $150,000 this week for his role in selling counterfeit Cisco computer networking gear. U.S. District Court Judge A. Howard Matz ordered Gavin, 43, to surrender on Jan 12, 2009, to begin serving his sentence, the U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement Tuesday. Full Story

Catalina Freight Lines took advantage of calm seas to haul away sacks of construction debris from South Laguna's Tutuava Bay last week. Questions Rise Over Hospital Accounting
Some directors of the now dissolved South Coast Medical Center foundation contend that the hospital's nonprofit parent, Adventist Health, failed to properly account for restricted gifts by donors and for several years failed to provide a satisfactory accounting of the foundation's assets. Temporary mobile homes in the canyon for landslide victims
Editor: Although we were unable to be at the recent [Nov 18] city council meeting, we wanted to thank Mrs. Philips, the residents of Canyon Acres, the city and the city council for their continued support. Breakers Stun Santa Ana
LBHS football broke a 21-year CIF playoff victory drought with an upset win over Santa Ana (7- 4) in a first round game played last Thursday night at the Santa Ana Bowl. The Breakers (5-6) and the Saints had one common opponent in Costa Mesa. The Mustangs edged Laguna last week 38-30, but lost big earlier in the season to Santa Ana, 41- 9. Full Story
Boys Head to State Finals for Sixth Straight Season
Going in to CIF finals on Nov. 22 at Mt. San Antonio College, the boys squads from Big Bear, Laguna Beach and Morro Bay were one, two and three in the southern section rankings. When the race was done and the dust had cleared, to the casual observer it appeared that nothing had changed. Full Story

In an action-packed game on Nov. 15, the Jolly Ranchers defeated the Ice Breakers in the final game of the AYSO girls 10 and under division to secure the Laguna Beach Championship. Local Girl Attends Maine College
Alexandra P. Lyon of Laguna Beach enrolled at 1850-student Colby College in Waterville, Maine, this fall. She is one of 483 students in Colby's class of 2012 and was selected from a pool more than 10 times that number. A graduate of Laguna Beach High School, Lyon is the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Gosselin. Full Story
