Former Mayor Protests Hospital's Accounting
Former Laguna Beach mayor and political consultant Paul Freeman on Tuesday demanded the City Council seek an accounting of restricted donations to the South Coast Medical Center Foundation, which was dissolved last month the same day Adventist Health announced a buyer for the 205-bed hospital. Boyd Named Mayor; a Not So New Face Joins the Council
A standing-room only crowd showed up to City Council chambers Tuesday in anticipation of seeing former eight-term city clerk Verna Rollinger sworn in as the newest councilmember. Mayor Jane Egly, who was re-elected with 37 percent of the vote, swore in clerk Martha Anderson. Anderson and Parisi both ran unopposed. Full Story
Thanks for Thanksgiving
The annual Thanksgiving potluck held for 20 in Bluebird Park was a huge success again this year, even though soggy ground and the threat of rain drove us into the Neighborhood Congregational Church for the noon meal. At the end we agreed that this was a better venue, and in the future the meal will probably be repeated in the warm atmosphere of the NCC's Bridge Hall. Full Story
Luck Lands Local Artist in France's Louvre Exhibit
Local artist James Verbicky is one of a dozen U.S. artists juried into the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts show in Paris, a 150-year-old exhibition once judged by the sculptor Rodin. His contemporary mixed media piece "Awake Concrete" and affiliation with the Beverly Hills-based Karen Lynne Gallery provided his passport. Full Story
