Breakers Get Roughed Up in Beach First Games
The LBHS girls' basketball team opened the 2008 season with three key returning players from last year's second place Orange Coast League squad, which narrowly lost in the second round of the CIF playoffs. On Wednesday with a full squad, the Breakers dropped a tough 47-46 game to Westminster. Emily Writer had 28 points, Samantha Garner 12, Katie Daff 4 and Ahllam Berri 2. Full Story

Laguna rolled through the fifth annual La Quinta Shootout last week, beating perennial OC hoops powers Northwood and Katella before falling just short in the title game to Marina. Full Story
Men In Black Compete for Regional Bragging Rights
Laguna Beach's boys division under 12s soccer team Men In Black dominated the recent regional tournament, beating Laguna Niguel 9-0, Lake Forest 7-3, Rancho Margarita 2-0 and San Juan Capistrano 3-1. Breakers Powerfully Kick Off Season Opener
The 28th season of LBHS girls soccer began successfully this past week, demonstrating a strong defense that allowed just one goal in five games. The efforts were good for two wins and three ties. Laguna started the week with a pair of 0-0 ties, first against Connelly in the Ocean View Holiday Tournament and the other coming in a non-league match at San Juan Hills. Full Story

Breakers Frustrate Mater Dei, Shutout Mission Viejo
LBHS boys soccer continued their unbeaten ways, earning a tie and two wins against tough non-league competition. Last Wednesday, Laguna held OC's #10 Mater Dei to a 1-1 tie with some aggressive second half play. The Monarchs, coached by former Laguna mentor Andy Thomas, struck first with a tap to the left corner after several headers from both teams. Full Story
Middle-Schooler to Represent Laguna In Teen Pageant
Marissa Greenough, a 13-year-old eighth grade student at Thurston Middle School, has been selected by the Miss Teenage California Scholarship Program to be Miss Teen Laguna Beach 2009. She was one of 23 Laguna Beach girls who submitted applications to participate in the pageant, which offers a scholarship award, among other prizes. Full Story
Students Aim to Make a Difference in 6 Days
A half-dozen Laguna Beach High School students will begin a six-day effort beginning this Sunday, Dec. 7, to collect new and gently used sports equipment for children around the world. The six students will be collecting equipment used in all youth sports from 11 a.m. Full Story

Top-Ranked Girls Live Up to Their Billing
The top ranked CIF Division II Breakers girls water polo team got its season underway on Tuesday with a 9-5 drubbing of OC's No. 4 ranked Foothill in a match played at Beckman High. Laguna's talented squad lived up to their pre-season hype by taking a quick 5-1 lead on the Knights, always one of the top programs in the state. Full Story
