Poster Exhibit Captures Local History

A 21-year retrospective of Festival of Arts annual posters is on display at the downtown Laguna Beach Wells Fargo through Jan. 9.

Admission is free to the thirdfloor exhibit.

The posters' subject matter expresses various personalities, classical landscapes, abstractions, and delicate objects, reflecting the range of creative attitudes that exist at the Festival of Arts.

The exhibit illustrates not just the history of the Festival of Arts, but that of Laguna Beach. Included are Armen Gasparian's 1982 depiction of Crystal Cove and a more recent painting of the same subject by Michael Obermeyer and Jacobus. Other posters include reproductions of paintings by Brenda Bredvik, Sandra Jones Campbell, Dagmar Chaplin, Clarence Hinkle, Michael Jacques, Kathy Jones, Mark Kerckhoff, Roger Kuntz, Tom Swimm and others.

There are also a variety of Pageant of the Masters posters highlighting themes throughout the years including "All the World's a Stage," "On the Road," and "A Passion for Art."

Also on display are items sold in the gift shop during Festival season and on the website yearround.
