Breakers Get Roughed Up in Beach First Games
The LBHS girls' basketball team opened the 2008 season with three key returning players from last year's second place Orange Coast League squad, which narrowly lost in the second round of the CIF playoffs.
On Wednesday with a full squad, the Breakers dropped a tough 47-46 game to Westminster. Emily Writer had 28 points, Samantha Garner 12, Katie Daff 4 and Ahllam Berri 2. Garner also had 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
In Thursday's action, Laguna lost 50-36 to Buena Park. Writer led the Breakers with 20 points while Garner had 14 points, 13 boards and seven blocks.
The Breakers also lost a tough game to Loara 44-39. Writer had 16, Daff 11, Garner seven with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Berri added six points and Belinda Hyland had a pair.
Laguna dropped a non-league game hosting University on Tuesday, 59-18.
Laguna resumes play on Monday, Dec. 15 hosting St. Margaret's at 6 p.m. and have two more non-league match ups later in the week.
After Christmas, the Breakers will play in the Garden Grove Tournament as a tune up for league play, which opens Jan. 8.
