Cops Seek Help in Nabbing Brazen Thief

A thief stole a wallet with $800 in cash from a woman celebrating her birthday at South Laguna's Ti Amo Restaurant Dec. 9 who stepped outside to smoke, police reported.

The thief scooped up the wallet from the purse and shoved it under his shirt. A security video camera system inside the restaurant captured it all on tape.

After paying for his meal, the thief departed, making a remark about his dining experience to the victim and a friend, who joined her for a smoke.

The wallet contained $800 in cash and credit cards, which police said were used at several gas stations and convenience stores in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente before the victim had time to cancel the cards. Charges exceeded $2,000, according to police.
