Felder's courage

From time to time, I have read letters to The Independent from Gene Felder. Even though my political leanings are at the other end of the political continuum from his, I value his letters greatly. He writes what he believes with no apologies, he is well informed and he writes articulately and clearly.

Mr. Felder seems to recognize that the foundation of our democratic system of government was hammered out of conflicting and sometimes strongly opposing opinions. The maintenance and growth of our democracy requires continuing expression of different points of view.

Mr. Felder has the courage of his convictions. For that and his loud, clear voice, I hold his letters in high regard and I admire and respect him (most especially when I think he is wrong).
