Monday - January 5

Nyes & Victoria Vandalism 10:11 a.m. The tunnel beneath Coast Hwy was heavily tagged.

Temple Hills Drive - 1500 Block Petty Theft 12:15 a.m. An elderly RP told police that a teenaged boy came to her home and solicited money for magazine sales. She explained that the youth said his baseball team was raising money to take a team trip to play ball in Hawaii. The boy provided her with a local address and phone number and said the entire team would return and clean her windows. Sometime later, she felt uncomfortable having the whole team around and called the phone number only to find out it was phony. She stopped payment on her check and asked police to provide extra patrol checks.

N. Coast Hwy - 1100 Block Petty Theft 4:14 p.m. An iPod nano and a cell phone were stolen from a 2009 Honda Civic. There were no signs of forced entry.

Tuesday - January 6

Broadway - 400 Block Grand Theft 8:28 a.m. A business reported that a bank deposit for $1100 had been stolen from a drawer.

Glenneyre & Thalia Street Petty Theft 11:40 a.m. A wallet was lifted from an unlocked car.

Coast Hwy - 31800 Block Found Property 2:21 p.m. A plastic bag filled with cut up credit cards, personal identification cards and papers was found. Police said the contents appeared to belong to multiple individuals but they were unable to clearly discern names.

Catalina Street - 1400 Block Credit Card Fraud 4:39 p.m. When the RP looked at a credit card statement, he knew immediately that someone had made an unauthorized charge for $800. The charge was for Clippers tickets.

Wednesday - January 7

Katella Street - 1000 Block Fraud; ID Theft 3:57 p.m. Someone using the RP's personal information obtained a Bloomindales' Visa card and had it sent to a Chicago address. The card was then used to finance a European vacation and shopping spree for $17,250.

Pavilions Drug Arrest 7:25 p.m. Vicodin pills (without a valid prescription) allegedly in the possession of Minnesota resident Andrea Marie Sohns-Jilleen, 31, led to her arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

Thursday - January 8

High Drive - 100 Block Unlawful Entry 10:49 a.m. Police were called by a woman who said there was a broken front window in her home and she'd seen an unknown man inside. Police arrived and searched the home but the suspect had already left. Fresh blood was found inside on the carper beneath the broken window. The RP took a quick inventory and said there did not appear to be any losses. An officer making a routine foot patrol in Heisler Park three hours later encountered a man with blood on his jacket and a fresh cut on his hand. The RP positively identified Michael Todd White, 43, El Monte, as the man she'd seen inside her home. He was arrested on charges of forced entry into a residence and felony vandalism.

Coast Hwy - 31900 Block Grand Theft 11:35 a.m. Wiring was cut and taken from a construction site.

S. Coast Hwy & Forest Avenue Warrant Arrest 12:28 p.m. Ronnie Spain, 55, no fixed address, was taken into custody for a Harbor Court warrant for public intoxication.

Koffee Klatch Grand Theft 9:16 p.m. A man reported that his backpack had been stolen explaining that he'd placed in on the patio before going inside. It contained in excess of $3000 in computer and camera gear. The officer taking the report asked to view the outside surveillance tapes and identified the juvenile suspect who was on view grabbing the backpack. The officer went to the 16-year-old boy's home here in town and retrieved all of the stolen property within an hour of the theft.

Friday - January 9

Coast Hwy & Aliso Beach Warrant Arrest 1:16 a.m. Wants and warrants checked during a traffic stop turned up a Harbor Court Laguna Hills warrant for Nyland Marcus Rim, 20, Laguna Niguel, with a charge of FTA possession of under and ounce of marijuana.

S. Coast Hwy & Moss Street Warrant Arrest 1:32 a.m. Another person was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a routine traffic stop. Coto De Caza resident Nathan Edward Thompson, 23, was held for FTA public intoxication.

Monterey Street - 31400 Block Grand Theft 7:48 a.m. Pain meds and insulin were reported stolen.

S. Coast Hwy & Legion Street Warrant Arrest 11:20 a.m. Teofilo Flores, 40, La Habra, was arrested during a traffic stop for a DUI warrant with bail of $35,000.

Saturday - January 10

Park Avenue - 400 Block Warrant Arrest 1:01 a.m. Kelly Scott Copeland, 41, Laguna Beach, was arrested on a Reno, NV warrant for a bad check charge.

Glenneyre & Mermaid Street Defrauding an Innkeeper 1:22 a.m. Vincent Hooton, 39 of Nevada and Arizona resident David McFarland Thomas, 35, were both arrested for defrauding an innkeeper. A Yellow Cab dispatcher had reported that two men in a taxi told the driver they didn't have any money for the ride.

S. Coast Hwy - 800 Block Warrant Arrest 2:46 p.m. The OC Sheriff's Dept contacted Laguna cops to look for a man at a local hotel with an outstanding Harbor Court warrant for DUI. Barry Richie Knapp, 45, Irvine, was arrested here.

Laguna Canyon Rd & The Dog Park Grand Theft 3:47 p.m. While the RP was walking his dog, someone swiped the tailgate from his white Toyota Tacoma pickup.

N. Coast Hwy & Beverly Street Warrant Arrest 9:40 p.m. A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Hawthorne man, Christian Alejandro Chiappe, 28, for a San Mateo Court warrant for violation of probation for a DUI conviction.
