Members of the Laguna Beach Rotary Club recently resorted to extreme measures to do their part in meeting a fundraising challenge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A dinner event at Pomodoro's Restaurant, with the restaurant donating 20 percent of the proceeds from the checks of Rotary diners, apparently seemed too tame. Full Story

Lights Out for Laguna Earth Hour
In support of Earth Hour 2009, where 377 cities globally have committed to go dark for one hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, Laguna residents are encouraged to take a walk through downtown. Meet at City Hall at 8:15 p.m. for a walk down Forest Avenue with lanterns and posters. Full Story
Cars Line Up for a Patriotic Washing
The Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support will hold a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the parking lot of the South Shores Church, 32712 Crown Valley Parkway in Dana Point. While Marines promise to scrub cars squeaky clean, patrons can partake in a barbecue feast prepared by Harbor Grill as well as receive a Marine Corps pin. Full Story

Shelter Offers Bargain Cat Neutering
PUP Laguna Beach, the fundraising arm of the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, and Bluebell Foundation are sponsoring a low-cost spay and neuter clinic for cats. From April 1 to 15, they will charge only $10 for each spay or neuter, with no limit on the number of cats per household. Full Story

Sea School for Boys & Girls Club Kids
The Ocean Institute's Adopt-a- Class made visits to the Boys & Girls Club in February, treating members to an oceanic learning adventure. After a reading of "A House for Hermit Crab," by Eric Carle, the Ocean Institute's staff members were able to answer all the kids questions and dispel some common misperceptions. Full Story
