Playhouse Sinatra Tribute Singers Do It His Way
"My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra," opens at the Laguna Playhouse next week. Conceived by David Grapes and Todd Olson and directed by Grapes, this musical review includes almost 60 songs of the beloved, blueeyed crooner. Four singers (two women and two men) will interpret Sinatra tunes on a nightclubstyle set that's a nod to Sinatra's self-characterization as "a saloon singer."
The show celebrates the pivotal moments of Sinatra's life and recalls the essence of the man through the glorious music he sang - from his early big band beginnings in the 1940s, on through his glory days in Las Vegas with the Rat Pack in the 1960s, and ending with his final performances in the 1990s as "The Chairman of the Board."
Preview performances will be held July 7 to 10. Regular performances, July 12 through Aug. 23, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; Thursday matinees at 2 p.m. on July 9 and 23, and Aug. 20; and a Sunday evening performance at 7:30 p.m. on July 19. Tickets range from $35 to $70 and can be purchased from the theatre at 606 Laguna Canyon Road, or by calling 497-2787 or visiting www. LagunaPlayhouse.com.
