Divers Dunk Beach Curfew Plan
After a contingent of out-oftown divers voiced their opposition, the City Council on Tuesday dropped a proposal by Mayor Kelly Boyd to impose a 11 p.m. curfew on several "residential" beaches due to late-night partying and loud noises. Full Story
Smoking Banned in City Parks
The City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday in support of an ordinance to impose a smoking ban in public parks, expanding an existing prohibition against lighting up on city beaches. Councilmember Toni Iseman, who proposed the ban, said that aside from the ill effects of secondhand smoke, the shelf-life of cigarette filters is enough cause for the ban. Full Story
