Councilmember Verna Rollinger, left, Mayor Kelly Boyd, and South Laguna Civic Association members Ann Christoph and Bill Rihn, last Friday celebrated wrapping up street improvements in South Laguna at a dedication ceremony. The $1.5 million project was 60 percent funded by a 2007 federal transportation grant, intended for scenic highways and pedestrian improvements. Planning began 10 years ago on the project that features 21 trees, a landscaped median, new sidewalks, a 10-space pocket parking lot and six new on-street spaces, as well as cobblestone planters, bus shelters and pediments for lantern-style street lamps. Dave Rusk celebrated Independence Day by strapping on his helmet, revving up a Harley and setting out on a challenging 4,000-mile ride to Alaska on his own. Two Parties for Tea Will Benefit Goat Lady's Projects
A couple of afternoon tea parties have been organized to help Laguna Beach's "goat lady," Rosalind Russell raise funds for her "Women Helping Women and Children" effort in Nepal. Grant Helps Boys Club Dish Up Treats
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach has received a $3,000 grant through a partnership with the Walmart Foundation to ensure that club members have access to nutritious meals and/or snacks this summer.
