One Teacher's Mea Culpa
Mea culpa, I teach in Laguna Beach and didn't show the president's speech on the first day of school. But, please, make no mistake about motives, responsibilities or censorship: No one forbade me to air this address. Full Story
Praise For Fraisse
Although I am not one of the parents who called the superintendent's office or the school board, I would like to commend Dr. Fraisse and the Laguna Beach School Board for their action regarding the presidential speech on the first day of school. Instead of being vilified, Dr. Full Story
A Call for Candor
Given that last week I took the LB Indy to task for a misleading header, I'd like to congratulate you for a good one in the next issue. Both header, "Right of Way" and title, "Political Pretenses" were perfect for Amy Kramer's opinion piece. However, the content, an exercise in sophistry, was disappointing. Full Story
Just Say No to Pot Dispensaries
Thank you City Council for rejecting the addition of medicinal marijuana dispensaries to town. All one has to do to see how these prescriptions are being abused is take a stroll down the Venice boardwalk and try to avoid the barkers outside the numerous pot shops hawking "free consultations. Getting it Wrong Here
I'd like to know who gave Toni Iseman the gift of being able to discern who's "healthy" and who's not (along with their age) just by watching them walk in and out of a doctor's office? Many, many people may appear to be healthy as they walk about town but may suffer with any number of chronic illnesses, myself included. Full Story
Advocate's Rebuttal
In a Sept. 8 letter to the editor Mike Gleason finds "interesting" that I didn't mention my rather broadly reported role in last December's ACLU lawsuit in my Aug. 21 guest column. But, except for that role, why the column? Full Story
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Walk a Block, Soothe the Neighbors
I grew up in the Midwest where the weather is awful much of the time. I have lived on Skyline Drive for the last eight years and am forced to drive by Laguna Beach High whenever I leave home. At 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. this is no picnic. There is rarely rain, or frigid wind, or snow in Laguna. Full Story
Appreciating the Town on Two-Wheels
Did anyone catch the two bicycle related stories in the Laguna Independent this week? On the front page above the fold, column one page one reads "Man Dies Riding El Moro Trails" by Ted Reckas. In the same issue almost last page B8 column one reads "Critical Mass Bike Ride Gets Rolling Sept. 19. Full Story

Fuming Over a Citation
Months ago, everyone was concerned about local businesses. The City Council went on record with their concern wanting to help local businesses, resulting in the closing of a downtown street one night a month and the mayor wanting to make it easier for "chains" to open in Laguna. We waited for the council's help. Full Story
