As wildfire season nears and with nearly 80 percent of county residents reporting they are not prepared for a major emergency, ReadyOC, Orange County's largest disaster preparedness initiative, has recently re-launched a new web-based campaign to educate and empower residents and businesses to prepare for and respond to emergencies. Knitting Classes for Knots-of-Love Instructor Dona Harman of Strands and Stitches will teach participants to knit caps for Knots-of-Love Organization, which donates caps to people battling cancer or other illnesses. Congregational Church Invites Public to Welcome a New Pastor
The Neighborhood Congregational Church invites the community of Laguna Beach to join the special installation ceremony for their permanent senior pastor, the Reverend B.J. Beu, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, in the church sanctuary. Beu and his family was welcomed into the congregation late last fall, but this weekend marks the pastor's formal installation. Full Story

Local Testifies on Smart Irrigation
Laguna Beach resident Robert Wade recently testified about best-practices in irrigation before a state Assembly water crises committee. A landscape contractor, Wade explained that using smart irrigation controllers is a "best practice in conservation" that could cut outdoor water use by a third when combined with better irrigation schedules and drip irrigation systems.
