Art Teacher Honored at Homecoming
Preceding Laguna Beach High School’s homecoming football game Oct. 30, the alumni association tailgate party will honor a longtime former teacher, Hal Akins.
Akins, an art teacher and football coach of 35 years, died in 2008. He was 83. Full Story

When Coach Dave Brobeck decided to test his division IV Breakers by entering them in the division I sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships, officials told him that Laguna was already slated to compete in that race. Even though polls at the time had his team ranked fourth in the county regardless of division, Brobeck was still a bit surprised. Full Story
Young Musicians ‘Band’ Together
The Collective Sound teamed up with the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club this fall to launch Creative Labs, an after school music program designed to give young musicians the resources, mentorship and venue to play in a real live band. Full Story
City Council Honors Girls Water Polo Team’s National Championship

The Laguna Beach 12 and under girls water polo team was honored by Laguna Beach City Council for capturing a national championship this August at the National Junior Olympics.
The Stanford University tournament featured over 350 teams from throughout the U.S. in five age groups held throughout Palo Alto at 16 different venues. Full Story
A Track Veteran Too Young for Street Driving
Laguna Beach student Ryan Cansdale, an El Morro Elementary fifth-grader, won the ministock car championship at Irwindale’s Toyota Speedway.
The results bring Ryan a season total of 10 wins and rookie of the year recognition in his state’s mini stock car division. Full Story
LBHS Girls Take on Volleyball Alumni
This year’s Laguna Beach High School Girls Volleyball Alumni Game will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, in Dugger Gym. The frosh/soph versus junior varsity game will be held at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity versus alumni game will get underway at 5:45 p.m.
General admission is $10, and all proceeds go to the girls volleyball team. Full Story
