Art Teacher Honored at Homecoming

Preceding Laguna Beach High School’s homecoming football game Oct. 30, the alumni association tailgate party will honor a longtime former teacher, Hal Akins.

Akins, an art teacher and football coach of 35 years, died in 2008. He was 83.

The public is invited to attend the 5 to 7 p.m. party in the district parking lot and to honor Akins, who “was much more than just a teacher,” said association spokeswoman Wendy Potter.

Breakers (2-4) kickoff at 7 p.m. against Oak Hills (4-2), a new school from Hesperia. Laguna homecomings are always the best attended game of the season.
