From Power Moms to a Pot Dispensary Ban, ‘Lagunatics’ Pokes Fun at the Town’s Trials
In a hilarious take off of the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.,” the cast skewers the A.C.L.U.’s suit-wearing lawyers for suing Laguna Beach on behalf of the homeless. Joe Lauderdale, center, leads the herd in “Grazin’ on the Grass,” a parody of the firefighting goats that graze the local hillsides and kick up controversy among conservationists in “Lagunatics.” The annual roast of the town’s civic affairs runs through Oct. 25 at the Forum Theater on the Festival of Arts’ grounds. Ron Dier in “Don’t Go Home” bemoans depressed art sales and tourists who depart without shopping bags. “Fiddler in a Spoof,” a take off on the Broadway musical’s bottle-dance and signature showtune, “Tradition!” The updated version? “Recession!” “Splish Splash,” a homage to the cross-dressing men who steal the show in pool scenes from “Splash,” the homegrown fundraiser that supports the AIDS Services Foundation.
