Canyon Protestors Reunite for Anniversary

On Monday, Nov. 2, the Laguna Canyon Conservancy will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the walk, the largest, most successful and peaceful demonstration in the history of Orange County, with a dinner meeting open to the public.

More than 8,000 people gathered two decades ago at an unusual mural in Laguna Canyon’s Sycamore Flats to protest further development in the canyon.

Special guest, Harry Huggins, now asset manager with O.C. Parks, was the executive coordinator of the walk. Huggins will give a power-point presentation, including a variety of photos, film and video clips from 1989.

Tivoli Terrace’s doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner is served around 6:30 p.m. and the program follows.

LCC monthly dinner meetings are open to the public. Dinner tickets are $10 for current members and $15 for non-members. Tickets may be paid at the door with prior reservations. Since a large crowd is expected, please RSVP before the deadline, Saturday, Oct. 31. To reserve call Ed at 494-6465. Leave your name, phone number, and number of reservations.
