Jaffe Shreds Eagles in 56-24 Romp
Senior tailback Alec Jaffe continued the 2009 team’s assault on the school’s football record books by re-writing the single game rushing mark with a swaggering 361 yards on 29 carries in the Breakers (3-4, 2-0) rout of Calvary Chapel last Friday at home. Full Story
Varsity Girls Seventh, Boys Eighth at Mt. SAC
With Coach Dave Brobeck resting his top four runners, seniors Blake Hofmeister, Tommy Newton-Neal and Andrew Shapero, and junior Matt Neev, it was the perfect time for senior Sean Pigden to shine. And he did. Pigden led the Breakers at Walnut’s Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday, Oct. 23, to an eighth place finish out of 16 teams in the varsity sweeps race. Full Story

Breakers took second in a league duel match season after splitting their matches last week. Estancia took the Breakers 252- 264 on Tuesday, Oct. 20 and Laguna rebounded with a win over Westminster on Thursday. The teams star, senior Grace Komoroczy, should be the favorite in the league meet held earlier this week. Full Story
Thurston Student Wins Trip to France
Aviva Meyers, a seventh grade student at Thurston Middle School, won an all expense paid trip to France, a contest sponsored by student travel company NETC.
Meyers’ French teacher, Randi Beckley, who has been taking students on yearly trips to France through NETC since 1998, urged her to enter at the last minute. The 12-year-old admits she didn’t think she would win. Full Story

Locals Excel in Gymnastics and Tennis
Two Laguna Beach students brought home championship trophies in their respective sports on Oct. 2. Thurston sixth-grader Tatum Cassill excelled in gymnastics, while Laguna Beach High School freshman Teague Hamilton scored in tennis. Full Story
