Elite Playoffs Begin

Laguna (12-6) opened the 30th annual Southern Section Girls Tennis team playoffs yesterday as they hosted Brentwood, the Olympic League third place team on the local courts. A win should put the No. 9 ranked Breakers against No. 8 Mira Costa this Saturday for the right to meet top ranked Dana Hills on Tuesday. Laguna lost in the quarterfinals last year to the Dolphins and also earlier this season.

In the Orange Coast League finals last week, Madeline Jaeger won the singles title with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Kendra Fisher of Estancia. Laguna’s No, 2 player, Taylor Nederlander, missed the event due to flu. In doubles play, more sickness affected top doubles player Haley Moss, as she, too, was sidelined. However the Breakers came though and made it to the finals, making it an all Laguna Beach event as Claire Jaeger-Bianca Sganga defeated Alison Azera-Mckenna Nokes 6-0, 6-0.
