Seuss Rhymes Set to Music

The curtain came up this week on Thurston Middle School’s performance of “Seussical the Musical,” which continues Feb. 5 and 6 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the school’s Black Box Theatre. The show, with a colorfully clad cast of characters, sets Dr. Seuss stories to music in an exciting and energetic play, good for the smallest of the small and the tallest of the tall.A

udiences will recognize many of Dr. Seuss’s memorable characters including Jojo, Gertrude, Amazing Mayzie, Horton the Elephant, and, of course, the mischievous Cat in the Hat. “The show is a bit of a compilation of Seuss’ classic children’s stories,” explained drama teacher Mark Dressler.

“People of all ages will be drawn to this show because we all hold a special place in our hearts for these imaginative stories,” said music director Roxanna Ward, “but they will also be delighted with the music which features some really beautiful compositions.”

The energy of the cast, toetapping music and sets designed by Annette Doreng make the show a must-see, said parent Melissa Cavanaugh.
