What’s New at Susi Q?

Annual Membership Meeting, Feb. 8

Laguna Beach Seniors annual membership meets Monday, Feb. 8 in the Great Room of the Susi Q Center, after lunch.

Attending members will be asked to approve three board candidates: Chris Quilter and Louise Buckley, who are standing for reelection, and Tina Haines, who joined the board in mid-year. Quilter will also give a brief “State of the Agency” report.

Eight-week Refresher Bridge Course, starts Feb. 8

Bridge instructor Ann Cress- man will teach an eight-week course Mondays at 9:30 a.m. designed for players who want to brush up on their bridge skills. There will be no class on Feb. 15 or March 15. The fee is $95, due in advance.

Trip to Noguchi Garden, Feb. 10

The Susi Q’s Intrepid Travelers head to the Isamu Noguchi Sculpture Garden in Costa Mesa, leaving the Laguna bus depot at 10:32 a.m. and returning at 3:17 p.m.

Middle Eastern Dance Classes

Local resident Dr. Rahimeh Andalibian is once again offering to teach a fusion of ethnic dances. Expect to have fun, sweat, and learn a few new moves in this beginner/intermediate level class, held at 1:15 p.m. an Fridays, Feb. 5-March 12. The fee is $60 for all six classes, or $15 for drop ins.

Free Tax Help

IRS-trained volunteers give free basic tax help to seniors aged 60 and older. Volunteers will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays through April 15, and will schedule appointments at 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Floral Design Classes Continue

Floral design instructor Debby Neville will teach simple and creative techniques in all styles of flower arranging from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday afternoons. Each class costs $45, which includes all material fees. RSVP by Wednesday.

Computer Classes

Computer classes are offered Thursdays in February. Each class is $10. For times and detailed information, call 497- 2441. Free Genealogy Lecture Series

Collyn Youngman shares her passion for genealogy. Her remaining lectures are as follows: Feb. 8, biographies, city directories, telephone directors, etc.; Feb. 22, church records; March 1, court records; March 8, sharing data among researchers; and March 15, on-line searches.

Used Book Sale

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the lobby of the senior center to support the Susi Q Library. Hardcover books will be sold for a dollar and paperback books will be sold for 50 cents.

Monthly Vision Loss Support Group

A representative from the Braille Institute will lead a support group from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the first Tuesday.

Open Office Computer Classes start Feb. 22

Instructor Lee Rhodes will teach participants to use Open Office. This course will consist of four one-and-a-half-hour classes, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Feb. 22 and March 1, 8 and 15. The cost 20 for all four classes.
